Response to essay question? What would I do to improve Richmond.

I would say to improve the quality of the city of Richmond, that each individual needs to look inside of their self pulling out there best qualities and reflecting them outwardly to the world.Being civil with one another helping those who are more unfortunate than ones self, caring and having concerns about your city as if it were the actual house that you live in. Get involved ,in other words stand up and speak out about things that are justly intolerable to city officials as well as neighbors start treating people as equals, personally this is where I would start to improve Richmond.

I was watching the republican presidential debates and the question for the candidates was similar to this essay question:If chosen to be president what would the elected candidate do to improve our country. While I observed and listened to this debate I realized that If one person could change this country for the better that each individual in the country could then turn each city into a great city. Treating others as you would want to be treated goes a long way. With this type of positive mental state life will then improve locally and abroad. Some of the issues in the debate were issues that also pertain to this city and health care was one Richmond can in my observations provide better heath care for the people on medicaid .In Richmond medicaid will not pay for dental work if you are over the age of 21yrs. I feel that this creates serious long term health problems for people unable to afford health care insurance, I feel that people over that age are more in need of dental care and that it is a known fact that dental problems can lead to serious heath conditions .I feel that Richmond should change this policy in medicare.

Another thing that I feel would improve Richmond would be to change the Commonwealth policy of "at will dismissal" I have experienced this unfortunate way of termination from two different employers and I feel that It allows a business to hire good employees at terminate them for their own personal Prejudices. With this law in effect it makes it very hard to establish a case of wrongful termination.I feel that if Richmond would rid itself from that law there would be a better rate of people employed and it would force employers to treat workers with more respect instead of a like it or leave it attitude. This law in away implies this old time saying "that your dammed if you do and your dammed if you don't I then say this because in both cases with these employers I was let go and it had nothing to do with my job performance it was as the law stated an;" At will dismissal" When filling out applications there is a area where they ask you the reason you are no longer working for a previous employer giving an at will dismissal does not read well to the business looking to hire new employees especially when you can't provide them with an explanation.

Richmond Commonwealth law states that a company or business can terminate employment for any reason at anytime during employment and so forth the employee without consequence. One is then forced to go to unemployment only to receive a small percentage of their working income. With living expenses amounting and or dependants the next step would be receiving public assistance to make ends meet. Then you get stereo typed in grocery stores like your steeling from working people not considering that the person may be of the working class that may a fell upon hard times.I myself was in line with an Eb card [food stamps] and the security guard of the store had acknowledged my method of payment and indignantly stated that I was spending his hard earned dollars and that's where all his tax dollars go. I then informed him that I am a tax payer as well and that I am not looking for hand outs from the government that am obligated to seek means of survival and that being a tax payer my self makes the government obligated to help me.

I feel Richmond is on the way to becoming one the greatest cities to visit for tourist and to live and grow up in.There are a lot of wonderful plans for the construction of this city plenty of things to look forward to for the new generation of Richmonders.I believe that Richmond officials should address the topics of better medicare and employment policies.Richmond city officials need to find solutions to prevent health problems in our working class of adults 21yrs and older. Who don't make enough to pay the rent let alone hospital bills and needed surgeries also by ridding the city of this unfair law of "At will dismissal" will level the field between employer and employee. In turn I feel that it creates a more respectable work enviorment for employees asuring them that good service to a company secures their positions and that they need not walk on egg shells to gain respect from their employers. These are the most significant changes I would make to Richmond .

Response to essay question: What do I fell is my best attribute and/or characteristics? Why?

My best attribute if I must say without seeming just ordinary would be being a mother. When my son looks up at me with that ever endearing love. His eyes full of potential seeking my knowledge, guidance, discipline, love and support.I would love to be able to give him the world though impossible I try and do my best. My son makes me feel like I'm doing a great job, if I do not have efficient finances for the action figure or video game he states" That its OK mommy we'll get it next time" never creating a fuss. There are times when I am upset I have had a prank caller that wouldn't give my phone a break my son had overheard me yelling, and stated " Don't worry mommy don't get upset you'll have an heart attack;just take a deep breath"calm down.I did then I laughed knowing that he is right telling me how to control my behavior at only the tender age of six makes me love to be a mother This is the one true attribute that is always having me to assess myself continually.

My son's admiration for me makes me feel almost honorable. He is well aware that I work very hard to provide a substantially comfortable environment for us being as though I have raised him as a single parent. Becoming a mother has endowed me with so much compassion. I am able to care for another person more than I care for myself.
When there had been a time long ago when I felt a child would ruin my life. On the contrary it made life all the more enjoyable.

I feel that the attribute of mother has giving me one of life most fulfilling experiences but it has also better help me to relate and appreciate my own mother as well. I can remember the times when i was younger I felt so upset with her , mostly for attention. I am the third out of eight . Then other times I felt that she could have done more to make life comfortable.Today I understand the hardships, struggles, the time consumption that it must of took for her to provide what we had. I have someone now who is my mom and friend. Being a mother made me realize how much we have in common we can converse better, and I am more open to listen to her advice after all she raised me and I turned out fine now I can see my work as mother lived out in my child.

My best characteristic I'd say enables me to better live up to my best attribute and I believe it to be that I am driven/outgoing ,I describe this characteristic to mean that I never back down when challenged especially intellectually.I have an ever ready willingness to compete for the win without gambling with my morals.I am insistent on conquering fears leaving no room for intimidation. Aiming to excel in any endeavors that I may encounter. This drive in me makes me passionate about life and all of it's wondrous bounties.I feel that this drive is fueled even more that it's my time to be mom. I can do the job my way perfecting myself as time goes by learning from my mistakes and those of my parents.I'm making sure that I take the necessary steps to further my education by getting my G.E.D.,encouraging my son in a life of challenges.Letting him know to never give up on your dreams and that there is always something more to aspire to be.

These two qualities the best attribute and my favorite characteristic of myself I feel will keep me positive .They are the foundations on what I feel will help me to become the successful attorney that I aspire to be . These qualities has already taken me back to school, strengthening myself in the general educational areas that have been my weak points . What most I admire about the two is that together they make each and every day worth living.Having these qualities instilled in me makes me to know that every waking day I'm already off to a good start.

Response to the essay question

My most significant life changing experience

I feel that moving from New York to Virginia has been the one most significant life changing experience for the betterment of my future. Relocating to Richmond, V.A. has opened my eyes to promising opportunities.Virginia has became a place for me to further my education in pursuit of a stable career profession, and have a family.

I was born and raised in South Jamaica Queens, New York. A area of high violent crime and drug rates. Growing into the age of understanding my surroundings, I became aware that New York no longer seemed to be the place to call home because" home is where the heart is". This place that I loved as an child became a place where I felt that I would never raise my own. Criminals and drugs addicts you'll find on nearly every street corner, 24/hr stores that doorways are crowded night and day with hustlers. This every day scene disfigures the city's potential. The constant traffic and violence is like a chaotic jungle of unfamiliar faces . I didn't want my child when the time came, to have to walk around viewing those images as early in his life as I had.

Moving to Virgina has given me peace of mind. I am more concentrated looking forward to more great things to come. I do not have to worry about who's standing in front of my residence or neighborhood convenience store.I have a son now.I know that when he comes of age Virginia offers very little of these distractions that became a hindrance unto me and my education. The streets are much cleaner here and the people nicer, patient and more courteous.

Older and more determined than ever now, without the disadvantages that I experienced in New york . I finally got the opportunity to go back to school attending classes for my high school equivalency diploma. As it stands today I am aspiring to become an attorney in the field of criminal law.

I believe that if it were not for this significant life changing move to Virginia, that it would of taken me much longer to return to school.I also know that buy this move I have become a better person and mother capable of providing a positive future for my family and myself.
